The 17th United European Gastroenterology Week (UEGW), held in London in November 2009, was jointly organized by the United European Gastroenterology Federation, the World Gastroenterology Organization, the World Organization of Digestive Endoscopy, and the British Society of Gastroenterology as a combined meeting with the World Congress of Gastroenterology under the name GASTRO 2009. Various abstracts on endoscopic subjects were presented, many of which concentrated on innovations and new techniques, whereas others highlighted topics with an impact on clinical practice. This report focuses on oral presentations, as well as a few presented posters, which demonstrate latest advancements and research in gastrointestinal endoscopy and attempts to briefly review them in the light of recent literature.
