ESGE Research Grants

The ESGE Research Committee aims to establish, discuss and promote clinical research studies in digestive endoscopy on a broad European level.

New grant 2011

At the recent meeting in Barcelona, the ESGE Governing Board endorsed a new research grant concept which was presented by Soren Meisner and Mario Dinis-Ribeiro. This initiative will be launched in 2011 and research grants of € 10 000 each awarded to the two successful applicants.

Applications should focus on gastrointestinal diagnostics or therapeutic endoscopy and support will preferably be given to multicenter projects presenting original ideas by well-organized teams with a reasonable budget.

Information and application will be available on the ESGE website soon and the submission deadline March 31, 2011.

ESGE/Given Imaging Research Grant

The Given Imaging Research Grant supports innovative, original research in gastroenterology with substantial involvement of capsule endoscopy.

A small ceremony was held for this year's grant winner, Dr. Lucian Negreanu (Romania) at the recent UEGW in Barcelona for his project entitled “Role of colon capsule in CRC screening of patients unable to perform colonoscopy”.

“The national health insurance system is presently looking into the compensation of capsule endoscopy, and the results from our trial will be submitted to them to be taken into consideration” explained Dr. Negreanu. “This project will also be beneficial for the patients unable to access expensive procedures at my hospital and, at the same time, we will upgrade our unit”.

Application for the Given Imaging Research Grant 2011 will be available online at www.esge.com as of February 11th, 2011.
