Dear readers, authors and friends of Endoscopy,

With this first issue of Endoscopy in 2012, on behalf of the Endoscopy board I would like to wish you all a Happy New Year!

During 2011, important changes took place in the structure of the Co-Editorship when Thierry Ponchon and Peter D. Siersema became Co-Editors-in-Chief and we extended the Co-Editorship to include Raf Bisschops, Michael Bourke, Michael Bretthauer, Mario Dinis-Ribeiro, René Laugier, Andrea May and Heiko Pohl. I enormously enjoyed working with the new team and look forward to further inspiring discussions and future directions of our journal.

We were pleasantly surprised to see that Endoscopy's impact factor has risen to 6,096 and I would like to extend my thanks to all those who helped to achieve this increase; naturally, to my fellow Co-Editors, but also a big thank you to the authors who submitted their papers to the journal and to the reviewers for their helpful evaluations. In Stockholm, at the United European Gastroenterology Week (UEGW), we were happy to present a reviewer award to Todd Baron, Marc Barthet, Pierre Deprez, James East and Klaus Mönkemüller for their extensive support.
