  • Ein wiederholter, entgleister, nicht zweckgebundener Warenkonsum, der zu familiären, sozialen, finanziellen und oft auch strafrechtlichen Problemen führt, ist charakteristisch für Kaufsucht.

  • Derzeit wird empfohlen, pathologisches Kaufen / Kaufsucht entweder als spezifische (ICD-10: F63.8) oder als nicht näher bezeichnete (ICD-10: F63.9) Störung der Impulskontrolle einzustufen, wobei noch Unklarheit über die adäquate Klassifikation besteht und auch eine Einordnung als stoffungebundene Sucht diskutiert wird.

  • Auf repräsentativen Bevölkerungsbefragungen basierende Schätzungen gehen davon aus, dass ca. 5–7 % der deutschen Erwachsenen stark kaufsuchtgefährdet sind.

  • Kaufsucht sollte stets im Rahmen eines ausführlichen Anamnesegesprächs diagnostiziert werden. Für ein erstes Screening und zur Verlaufskontrolle haben sich störungsspezifische Fragebögen bewährt.

  • Kaufsüchtige, die wegen pathologischen Kaufens eine Therapie aufsuchen, berichten meistens über komorbide psychische Störungen, v. a. Depressionen, Angststörungen, Binge-Eating-Störung und zwanghaftes Horten. Bei vielen Patienten fallen zudem zwanghafte, vermeidende, depressive oder emotional-instabile Persönlichkeitsakzentuierungen auf.

  • Allgemein wird von einem biopsychosozialen Ätiologiemodell für pathologisches Kaufen ausgegangen, wobei bislang kein störungsspezifisches Modell existiert.

  • Eine rein psychopharmakologische Behandlung von Kaufsucht, z. B. mit SSRIs oder Opiatantagonisten, wird nicht empfohlen. Je nach psychischer Komorbidität kann eine ergänzend zur Psychotherapie eingesetzte Medikation jedoch hilfreich sein.

  • Kontrollierte Psychotherapiestudien haben gezeigt, dass eine störungsspezifische kognitiv-verhaltenstherapeutische Gruppentherapie bei der Behandlung von pathologischem Kaufen hilfreich ist.
