Die entzündliche idiopathische Orbitopathie umfasst eine heterogene Gruppe unspezifisch entzündlicher orbitaler Erkrankungen ohne zugrunde liegende spezifische systemische oder lokale Ursache. Sie weist ein sehr heterogenes Befundbild auf und ist meist begleitet von einer ausgeprägten Schmerzsymptomatik; Rezidive sind keine Seltenheit.
Die Diagnose beruht auf dem Ausschluss anderer, die Orbita betreffender Erkrankungen sowie anamnestischen, klinischen und typischen radiologischen Befunden. Glukokortikosteroide sind das Therapeutikum der Wahl, des Weiteren kommen Radiotherapie und Immunsuppressiva zur Anwendung.
