Abstract
Bis[(dimethoxyphosphoryl)methyl)]amino- and bis(phosphonomethyl)amino-terminated samples of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) were prepared from commercially available PEG in fair-to-good yields by means of adaptations of the Moedritzer–Irani and Kabachnik–Fields procedures, respectively. An alternative route involving silylation of phosphonates and subsequent methanolysis to afford phosphonic acid groups was also examined.
