Summary
Dianthus versicolor Fisch.
Dianthus versicolor Fisch, is used as a herbal remedy in traditional Mongolian medicine, among other indications, for the treatment of liver diseases. In several diploma theses and one PhD thesis at the University of Vienna, the phytochemical composition and the biological activities of aqueous extracts from the aerial parts of D. versicolor were investigated. This article provides an insight into traditional Mongolian medicine as well as the traditional use of D. versicolor. Moreover, the current State of knowledge on phytochemistry and pharmacological properties of D. versicolor is discussed.
