Eine Schwellung in der Mundhöhle der Katze lässt einen zunächst einmal das Schlimmste erwarten. Die Wahrscheinlichkeit, dass eine Umfangsvermehrung für das Tier existenziellen Charakter annehmen wird, ist vergleichsweise hoch. Dennoch lohnt es sich, bei ungewöhnlichen Asymmetrien oder Gewebsalterationen genauer hinzuschauen und diagnostische Möglichkeiten auszuschöpfen, da allein die klinische Symptomatik nicht Grundlage sein sollte für Entscheidungen für oder gegen das Leben.
