Abstract

Over the last years significant progress in improvements of the early diagnostic work-up of spondyloarthritiden (SpA) including ankylosing spondylitis has been made. An evidence-based approach, which includes clinical, laboratory and imaging parameters, has been developed. The value of magnetic resonance imaging in early SpA diagnosis was clearly defined. Furthermore, the new ASAS criteria for axial and peripheral SpA, which should help rheumatologists in making the diagnosis of SpA, have been developed.
