Abstract

Starting from 4,5-(methylenedioxy)homophthalic acid, a concise and efficient synthesis of the isoquinoline alkaloids doryanine and oxyhydrastinine is described via the corresponding homophthalimide utilizing a one-pot regioselective reductive dehydration and catalytic hydrogenation pathway.
