Körperliche Gewalt und sexueller Missbrauch sind Traumatisierungen, die das Risiko für die Entwicklung eines breiten Spektrums psychischer Krankheiten deutlich erhöhen – dies gilt auch für sexuelle Störungen. Für deren Entstehung und Aufrechterhaltung ist ein komplexes System an Faktoren verantwortlich, die Merkmale und Begleitumstände der Traumatisierung sowie interne und externe Ressourcen umfassen. Eine effektive Psychotherapie bei sexuellen Störungen muss auch Traumatisierungen der Betroffenen berücksichtigen.
