ACS: Advancing Green Chemistry and Sustainability

The American Chemical Society (ACS) is strongly committed to sustainability, as articulated in its mission “To advance the broader chemistry enterprise and its practitioners for the benefit of Earth and its people.” This commitment is fulfilled through a variety of initiatives, including the ACS Green Chemistry Institute®, the Summer School on Green Chemistry and Sustainable Energy, green chemistry education resources, and the new journal ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering. Green chemistry is our discipline's unique contribution to sustainability; chemistry plays an essential role in advancing sustainability because chemists are the molecular designers who will create in an environmentally responsible manner the products upon which society depends. This presentation will highlight the American Chemical Society's efforts in advancing green chemistry and sustainability.
