Structures, Biological Activities and Preliminary Mechanism of Action Studies of Harmful Algal Bloom Toxins from Karlodinium sp.
Karlotoxins (KmTx) 2-10 were isolated from the pan-global HAB dinoflagellate species of Karlodinium veneficum and conicum. Due to the contrasting conformational difference between the karlotoxins and closely related amphidinols, the absolute configuration of KmTx is being further evaluated by an integrated degradation/experimental and calculated circular dichroism approach and a crystalline sponge approach. The expanded structure activity relationship of the class along with investigations into the cholesterol binding mechanism of action is being explored with new implications for the treatment of cancer and angiogenesis inhibitors.
