Isolation and Structure Elucidation of Compounds from Bark of Illicium tsaii
Illicium tsaii and Illicium difengpi are both Chinese native species growing in southwest China. The bark of I. difengpi, listed in Chinese Pharmacopoeia, has been applied for treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. In previous study, phenylpropanoids, neolignans [1 – 3], sesquiterpene lactones [4], triterpenoids [5], flavones and sterols [6] were isolated from I.difengpi. To compare chemical properties of I. tsaii with that of I. difengpi, phytochemical investigation of I. tsaii was carried out. In this study, phenylpropanoids, neolignans, diterpene, sterol and fatty acids were isolated and identified from the 80% ethanol extract of I. tsaii and elucidated by spectroscopic methods.
