Die Behandlung des akuten Herzinfarkts befindet sich in den letzten Jahren mit der Entwicklung neuer Thrombozytenaggregationshemmer, neuer Antikoagulanzien und insbesondere neuer Stents im stetigen Wandel. Unter diesem Aspekt hat die European Society of Cardiology (ESC) im Oktober 2012 eine überarbeitete Leitlinie zur Diagnose und Behandlung des akuten Myokardinfarkts mit persistierender ST-Streckenhebung (STEMI) veröffentlicht [1], welche die bisherigen Leitlinien aus dem Jahr 2008 ablöst [2]. Diese Übersichtsarbeit soll einen praxisnahen Überblick über die ESC-Leitlinien zur Diagnostik und Behandlung des STEMI geben. Dabei wird hauptsächlich auf die Akutdiagnostik und Akutbehandlung eingegangen.
