Summary
Exercise therapy of cancer patients in palliative care: An overview
Patients with advanced cancer often suffer from severe disease and treatment related symptoms such as pain, fatigue, weakness, anxiety and depression. In these palliatively treated cancer patients, it is of particular relevance to improve the quality of their residual lifetime. Several case reports and pilot studies revealed that exercise therapy is feasible in these incurably ill cancer patients and could have beneficial effects on their subjective well- being, physical performance, cancer and treatment related symptoms and therefore improve the patients’ quality of life. Further prospective and randomized studies are required to confirm these results. To this regard, the literature review of electronic databases (PubMed, MEDLINE, EMBASE) was undertaken. The following article presents an overview of the current state of the literature.
