Die Entfernung von Weisheitszähnen zählt zu den häufigsten ambulanten operativen Eingriffen [1]. Es ist davon auszugehen, dass bei bis zu 80 % junger Erwachsener mindestens 1 Weisheitszahn im Kiefer retiniert ist [2] [3]. Mit der S2K-Leitlinie von Kunkel aus dem Jahr 2012 ist für die praktizierenden Zahnärzte und Kieferorthopäden die Vorgehensweise über Gründe und Indikationen, die zur Entfernung der Weisheitszähne führen können, eindeutig geregelt [2].
