Morbidity of obstetric patients admitted to the tertiary hospital

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the reasons of obstetric admissions from General Hospital in Didimotichon at Department of obstetrics and gynecology in Democritus University of Alexandroupolis, Greece.

Material and methods: A retrospective chart review of pregnant, who admitted from the 24 week and 10 days post partum at intensive care unit from Department of obstetrics and gynecology in Alexandroupolis in the time between 2003 and 2013.

Results: 187 pregnant were included in this study The age of the participants range between 17 and 43 years. The observerd mortality rate accounts to 0%. The most common indications for the admission were as following: preeclampsia, diabetes mellitus, immune diseases, and HELLP 39.5%, major haemorrage 27.4%, preterm labor 32.5%, more surgical interventions in uteri in the past. The initial treatment began in Didimotichon hospital and continued in the tertiary hospital.

Conclusion: The perinatal morbidity is associated with high risk pregnancies and various predispodisional factors, which led to pregnancy pathology.
