Der GnRH-Antagonist (GnRH: Gonadotropin-Releasing-Hormon) Degarelix ist in den USA und Europa zur Behandlung des fortgeschrittenen Prostatakarzinoms zugelassen. Die prospektive 1-Jahres-Studie CS21 hat 2 Dosierungen von Degarelix (160 bzw. 80 mg) gegen den GnRH-Agonisten Leuprorelin getestet und Vorteile für Degarelix gefunden. Am Ende von CS21 konnten Teilnehmer beider Studienarme die Behandlung mit Degarelix in der offenen Langzeit-Extensionsphase (CS21A) fortsetzen. Ergebnisse daraus stellen nun Wissenschaftler der teilnehmenden Zentren und des Herstellers vor.
