Bluttransfusionen sind teuer und risikoreich. In der Studie von Ponnusamy et al. werden mögliche Komplikationen und unterschiedliche Strategien die Transfusionshäufigkeit zu senken genannt und diskutiert. Unter Hinzuziehung der aktuellen Literatur wird u. a. die Frage nach einem „akzeptablen postoperativem Hämoglobinwert“ beantwortet.
