Cindy Kin, MD, MS, FACS

Dr. Cindy Kin is a staff colon and rectal surgeon and Assistant Professor of Surgery at Stanford University Medical Center in Stanford, California. Cindy has one younger brother and she grew up in Maryland, Japan, and Hong Kong. She received her undergraduate training at Harvard University, completing a degree in government and international relations. Following this, she received her medical school degree at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City. She subsequently performed her general surgery residency training at Stanford University prior to completing her colon and rectal surgery residency training at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. Following this, Cindy returned West, and completed her master's degree in health services research at Stanford, where she also currently serves as the Director of Professional Development for the Stanford University General Surgery Residency, focusing on mentorship and inspiring residents to pursue a career in colorectal surgery.

Cindy remains a busy clinician and academic surgeon, as well as an active researcher. She has several peer-reviewed publications evaluating quality metrics and preventing complications in colorectal surgery. Her current research focuses on the use and cost of care for ulcerative colitis patients in the era of immunobiologics, the role of prehabilitation in minimizing complications following colorectal surgery, and the use of “wearables” in pre- and postoperative recovery. She is an active participant in multiple surgical societies.

Cindy and her husband Danny Gheorghe enjoy spending time with their dog Billy, and they currently live in Menlo Park, CA. When not working, Cindy enjoys running trails, half marathons, and playing tennis.
