Tongue amputation is a rare event. In fact, only four successful tongue replants are reported in the literature. These include one incomplete amputation[1] and three complete amputations.[2] [3] [4] To our knowledge, replantation of a self-inflicted, segmental tongue amputation has not been reported. We report the successful replantation of a self-inflicted, segmental tongue amputation in an actively psychotic patient. Additionally, intra- and postoperative management strategies are reviewed.
