Teaching and Improving Clinical Counseling Skills
Publication History
Publication Date:
07 February 2018 (online)

This special issue of Seminars in Hearing provides the content from the 2017 University of Pittsburgh's Teaching Conference. The theme for the conference was strategies for teaching counseling skills to graduate students, and participants were fortunate to hear from experts both from within and outside the fields of audiology and speech-language pathology. The discussion was lively and the presentations were excellent, as you will see by reading these articles. Helping our students and colleagues learn to demonstrate empathy, listen well, be prepared to have difficult conversations, and assist our patients in making behavioral change are all essential elements of clinical skill development. The articles in this issue will supplement your own knowledge and experiences with counseling those in need.
