Diskospondylitis an der Schwanzwirbelsäule beim Pferd

Zusammenfassung:

Gegenstand: Erkrankung an der Schweifrübe des Pferdes. Material und Methoden: Bei einem adulten Pferd entwickelte sich eine Umfangsvermehrung und eine Fistel an der Schweifrübe. Die klinischen und röntgenologischen Untersuchungen führten zu der Diagnose Discospondylitis vertebrae coccygealis. Das Pferd wurde über 28 Tage einmal täglich per os antibiotisch mit 2,5 mg/kg KM Enrofloxacin (Baytril®, BayerVital GmbH, Leverkusen) behandelt. Der Therapieeffekt wurde durch Verlaufsuntersuchungen über einen Zeitraum von vier Monaten kontrolliert. Ergebnisse: Durch die konservative Behandlung konnte die Diskospondylitis zur Abheilung gebracht werden. Schlussfolgerungen: Die bei erwachsenen Pferden selten auftretende Diskospondylitis lässt sich konservativ behandeln. Bei ungünstigem Heilungsverlauf istdie Anwendung der alternativ diskutierten chirurgischen Therapie in der Behandlungskaskade sinnvoll. Klinische Relevanz: Die bisher nicht beschriebene Diskospondylitis an der Schwanzwirbelsäule beim adulten Pferd istbei Umfangsvermehrungen der Schweifrübe differenzialdiagnostisch zu berücksichtigen.

Summary:

Subject: Affection of the tail-head of a horse. Material and methods: Aswelling and a fistula developed at the tail-head of an adult horse. Following clinical and radiological examination, a discospondylitis of the caudal spine was diagnosed. The horse wastreated orally with the antibiotic Enrofloxacin (Baytril®, Bayer Vital GmbH, Leverkusen) ata dose of 2.5 mg/kg BM once daily for28 days. The therapeutic effect was monitored during follow-up examinations in the nextfour months. Results: The conservative treatment healed the discospondylitis. Conclusion: The rare discospondylitis in adult horses can be managed with conservative treatment. Clinical relevance: Discospondylitis of the caudal spine should be included in the differential diagnosis in case of a swelling at the tail-head in adult horses.
