60 Jahre Sklerosierungsschaum^[*]

Zusammenfassung

In der Phlebologie wird Sklerosierungsschaum seit mehr als sechs Jahrzehnten für die Therapie von Varizen der unteren Extremitäten eingesetzt. Die Schaumsklerosierung begann jedoch nicht 1944 mit Orbachs berühmter Entwicklung der Airblock-Technik, sondern fünf Jahre zuvor mit Steward McAusland. Zwischen 1939 und 1995 wurden die auch aktuell von den meisten Schaumanwendern empfohlenen Therapieschritte beschrieben, u. a. die Beinelevation während der Therapie. Die Rolle der grundlegenden physikalischen Anforderungen an den Sklerosierungsschaum, z. B. Homogenität, Feinblasigkeit und Zähflüssigkeit wurden erkannt und technisch umgesetzt. In diesen Jahren wurden bereits 12 der mittlerweile rund 20 verschiedenen Techniken zur Schaumherstellung erfunden.

Summary

In phlebology, sclerosing foams are in use since more than six decades for the treatment of varicose veins of the lower extremities. However, foam sclerotherapy did not start in 1944 with Orbach’s famous invention of the airblock-technique. It began five years earlier with Steward McAusland. Between 1939 and 1995, the principal treatment modalities were described. They are still recommended by most foam users, e.g. leg elevation during therapy. The basic physical requirements of sclerosing foam i.e. homogeneity, small bubbles and viscosity were realized and solved technically. Out of the 20 different methods for foam preparation actually known, already 12 were invented in that time.

En phlébologie, les mousses sclérosantes sont utilisées depuis plus de 60 ans pour le traitement des varices des membres inférieurs. La sclérothérapie à la mousse ne commence pas en 1944 avec Orbach et sa célèbre technique- airblock mais 5 ans plus tôt avec Steward McAusland. Entre 1939 et 1995, des modalités de traitement, toujours recommandées par la plupart des utilisateurs de mousse (comme l’élévation de la jambe pendant le traitement), ont été décrites. Les conditions physiques de base de la mousse sclérosante comme l’homogénéité, les petites bulles et la viscosité ont été réalisées et résolues techniquement. 12 des 20 méthodes différentes de préparation de la mousse ont été inventées durant cette période.
