Kurz gefasste Einführung in die revidierte WHO-Klassifikation epithelialer Tumoren der Haut

Zusammenfassung:

Gegenstand und Ziel: Die 1998 erschienene, revidierte WHO-Klassifikation epithelialer Tumoren der Haut bei Haustieren löst die im Jahre 1974 aufgelegte, erste Ausgabe ab. In dieser Übersichtsarbeit sollen die Änderungen der neuen Fassung dargelegt werden. Material und Methoden: Durch eine Gegenüberstellung der alten und neuen WHO-Klassifikation werden die Unterschiede beider Einteilungen aufgezeigt und es wird auf Neuerungen hingewiesen. Ergebnisse: In der revidierten WHO-Klassifikation wurden einzelne bekannte Tumorentitäten aufgrund neuer Erkenntnisse histogenetisch reklassifiziert. Darüber hinaus wurden zahlreiche neoplastische Erkrankungen und differenzialdiagnostisch wichtige, nichtneoplastische Umfangsvermehrungen sowie neue Varianten von etablierten Tumorentitäten in die revidierte Fassung neu aufgenommen. Schlussfolgerung: Die neue WHO-Klassifikation wird dem gewachsenen Erkenntnisstand auf dem Gebiet der epithelialen Hauttumoren durch eine modifizierte Einteilung gerecht. Klinische Relevanz: Durch diese Übersichtsarbeit soll die Kommunikation zwischen dem diagnostisch tätigen Pathologen und dem praktizierenden Tierarzt in der Übergangsphase der beiden WHO-Klassifikationen erleichtert werden.

Summary

Objective: The revised WHO classification of epithelial skin tumors in domestic animals published in 1998 succeeds the first edition from 1974. This review article will outline the changes of the new edition. Material and methods: Differences and changes between the old and new classification will be comparatively pointed out. Results: In the revised edition some neoplastic entities have been reclassified due to a better knowledge of their histogenesis. Numerous neoplastic disorders and nonneoplastic diseases of differential diagnostic importance as well as new variants of established neoplastic entities have been included. Conclusions: The revised version of the WHO-classification meets the increased knowledge in the field of epithelial skin tumors in domestic animals by applying a modified classification schema. Clinical relevance: This review aims to improve the communication between diagnostic pathologists and practicing veterinarians during the transition period of both WHO classifications.
