Summary

Seven patients with severe exophthalmos received ablative doses of 131I in an attempt to ameliorate their eye disease. Six patients improved and the seventh patient remained stable despite the continued presence of functioning thyroid tissue on follow-up scintigrams. The results of this study would appear to indicate that radioablation for the treatment of malignant exophthalmos offers no advantages over present modes of therapy.
