Abstract

Le métabolisme périphérique de la triiodothyronine (T₃) et de la thyroxine (T₄) a été déterminé simultanément en Grèce chez des personnes affectées d’un goitre non toxique. La comparaison avec des résultats d’une groupe de contrôle montre que chez les goitreux, le métabolisme T₄ était normal tandis que le métabolisme T₃ était accéléré surtout par un agrandissement de l’espace de distribution du T₃. On suppose que le mécanisme de compensation pour les réserves de l’iode diminuées dans le goitre endémique consiste en une augmentation de la production et de l’utilisation du T₃.

Summary

The peripheral metabolism of triiodothyronine (T₃) and thyroxine (T₄) were measured simultaneously in subjects with non-toxic goitre in Greece. Comparison to the results obtained in a control group demonstrated that goitrous subjects showed a normal peripheral T₄ metabolism, while their T₃ metabolism was enhanced, principally because of an increase of T₃ space.

It is suggested that the main compensatory mechanism for decreased iodine reserves in endemic goitre is an increase in T₃ production and utilization.

Der periphere Stoffwechsel des Trijodthyronins (T₃) und des Thyroxins (T₄) wurde in Griechenland bei Personen mit nicht-toxischem Kropf gleichzeitig bestimmt. Der Vergleich mit den Ergebnissen bei einer Kontrollgruppe zeigte, daß bei Kropfpatienten der T₄-Stoffwechsel normal war, während der T₃-Stoffwechsel beschleunigt war, vor allem durch eine Vergrößerung des T₃-Verteilungsraumes.

Es wird angenommen, daß der hauptsächliche Kompensationsmechanismus für die herabgesetzten Jodreserven bei endemischem Kropf in einer Erhöhung der T₃-Produktion und -Verwendung besteht.
