Resumo
A síndrome de Munchausen refere-se a um distúrbio de ordem psiquiátrica no qual o paciente relata doenças inexistentes, fictícias, por vezes submetendo-se a exames e procedimentos cirúrgicos desnecessários. No sentido clássico, são histéricos e simuladores (ainda que conscientes) dos seus atos, agindo por razões que nem eles mesmos compreendem. O maior obstáculo no manuseio de tais pacientes é o reconhecimento patológico das enfermidades referidas, colocando à prova a sagacidade clínica do médico assistente. Relatos da síndrome de Munchausen no pós-operatório de neurocirurgias são extremamente raros na literatura, o que justifica a descrição do presente caso.
Abstract
The Munchausen syndrome is a psychiatric disorder, in which the patient reports non-existent diseases, often submitting themselves to unnecessary diagnostic tests and surgical procedures. In the classic sense, these patients are hysterical and deceiving, even if they are conscious of their acts, acting out because of reasons they cannot understand. The major obstacle in handling those patients is the pathological recognition of the referred diseases, which is a test to the judgment of the assistant medical doctor. Reports of Munchausen syndrome following neurosurgical interventions are extremely rare, which justifies this description.
