Die Depression ist eine komplexe und heterogene Erkrankung, die mit Schwierigkeiten und Leistungsminderungen bei diversen Hirnfunktionen einhergeht. Auch zum Schlaf besteht ein komplexer und nicht vollständig verstandener Zusammenhang. So gehen Schlafstörungen oft einer Depression voraus, gehören zu den häufigsten Beschwerden in einer bestehenden Episode und bieten einen Ansatzpunkt für antidepressive Behandlungsstrategien.
