Zusammenfassung
Die evozierten Potenziale ermöglichen die qualitative und zum Teil quantitative Beurteilung zerebraler, spinaler und peripherer Funktionen des Nervensystems. Dies betrifft motorische, somatosensorische, visuelle und akustische Leitungsbahnen. In gewissen Grenzen erlauben die Befunde eine Differenzierung zwischen demyelinisierenden und axonalen Läsionen und erlauben somit Rückschlusse auf die Ätiologie. Sie stellen oft eine unverzichtbare Erweiterung des klinischen Befundes dar.
Summary
Evoked potentials provide numerical data with quantitative extension of the neurological examination. The responses can be quantified by measuring peak amplitudes and latencies to assess the function of relevant cerebral, spinal and peripheral structures of the nervous system. The tested modalities are the motor, somatosensory, visual, and auditory pathways. With some limitations the findings allow a differentiation between demyelinating and axonal lesions and allow some conclusions on the underlying etiology.
