Es wird der Fall eines Patienten geschildert, der immer wieder beim Einschlafen durch
ein explosionsartiges Gefühl im Kopf geweckt wird. Es handelt sich hierbei um das
Exploding-Head-Syndrom, das ein harmloses, aber wenig bekanntes Phänomen ist. Über
die Pathophysiologie ist nichts bekannt. Es betrifft überwiegend ältere Menschen beim
Einschlafen und wird häufig von einem Angstgefühl, seltener von Kopfschmerzen begleitet.
Da Patienten dies noch am ehesten in Kopfschmerzambulanzen äußern, sollte das klinische
Phänomen zumindest bekannt sein.
Summary
The case of a patient is presented who was frequently awakened during wake-to-sleep
transition by an exploding feeling in his head. This is called exploding-head-syndrome
and is a harmless but not well known phenomenon. Nothing is known about its pathophysiology.
Mainly, elderly people are affected during wake-to-sleep transition; it is often accompanied
by a frightening feeling, but only rarely by headache. Since patients often report
this phenomenon in headache clinics, it should be known to headache specialists.
