Borderline personality disorder (BPD) has drawn more and more scientific interest
in the last years. Results from genetic, imaging and neuro-endocrinologic studies
had contributed to a more comprehensive understanding of this complex disorder. The
aim of this article is to present a general view of the recent neurobiological findings
concerning the etiology of the disorder and a possible integration between them. In
particular, a link between psychodynamic theories like Object-Relation-Theory, and
Attachment-Theory and neurobiological results are outlined in this essay.
