Summary

Abdominal pain is a common disorder in childhood and adolescence. Multiple organic and functional causes of abdominal pain have to be considered. The discrimination between functional and organic causes of recurrent abdominal pain remains difficult. Unnecessary and stressful diagnostic investigations can be avoided by careful inquiry of patients history and medical evaluation. Psychological, dietary and pharmacological interventions for treatment of recurrent abdominal pain are discussed.
