A two-month-old foal was presented for evaluation of a grade III/V left forelimb lameness.
The left front foot was found to be misshapen. Regional nerve blocks were used to
isolate the lameness to the left front digit. Radiographs revealed an unusual exostosis
on the palmar distal aspect of the middle phalanx. Due to a poor prognosis for a return
to soundness with treatment, the owners elected to euthanatize the foal. Histopathology
showed the exostosis to be a solitary osteochondroma originating from the middle phalanx.
