The introduction of automation technics into clinical medicine has multidimensional
sociological effects. The present paper discusses in some detail three of the main
problems implicated in such an important innovation: 1. the reasons for the acceptance
of or the resistance to the general idea of data-processing as a useful organizational
system for clinical medicine; 2. the potential consequences for the hierarchical structure
of medical institutions; 3. the effects on thè habits and practices of the individual
physician and the consequences for his patients. — Finally the problem of a central
big general purpose computer versus decentralized independent special purpose equipment
is stressed.
Die Einführung von Automationstechniken in die klinische Medizin hat vielfältige soziologische
Auswirkungen. Die vorliegende Arbeit befaßt sich eingehend mit drei der im Gefolge
einer so bedeutsamen Neuerung aufgetretenen Probleme: 1. mit den Gründen für die Annahme
oder Ablehnung der allgemeinen Idee einer Datenverarbeitung als nützliches Organisationssystem
für die klinische Medizin; 2. mit den möglichen Auswirkungen auf die hierarchische
Struktur medizinischer Institutionen und 3. mit den Folgen auf die Verhaltensweisen
und Praktiken des einzelnen Arztes und den Konsequenzen für seine Patienten. — Abschließend
wird die Alternative: großer zentraler Allzweck-Computer oder dezentralisierte unabhängige
Spezialgeräte diskutiert.
