Introduction:

Still few facts are known about the daily (listening) habits of retired CI-users above 60 years (retirees) compared to employed CI-users (employers) up to 60 years. In this study the individual listening situations of these patients should be assessed by themselves and compared to the results of the automatically identification of listening situations recording in the speech processor (datalogging, CochlearTM, 2014). methods: In this study 27 retirees and 29 employers were questioned about their individual listening situations with a self-made questionnaire at the earliest six months after initial fitting. Additionally, datalogging was selected and compared to the results of the questionnaire. results: With the help of datalogging it was illustrated that retirees were much longer in a quiet environment than employers. The questionnaire showed the same results. In comparison between the objective and subjective data the retirees assessed themselves with a quite clearly less time of duration in almost all listening situations than shown in the datalogging-except the listening situation „speech“. In relation to the employers a discrepancy of the objective and subjective data was shown in the listening situations „quiet“ and „speech in noise“: they also assessed their duration of time quite clearly less than it is shown in the datalogging. conclusion: Datalogging provides an opportunity to show discrepancies between subjective self-assessment and datalogging. How far these results should be considered in technical fitting as well as in therapy should be investigated in another study.
