A case of colonoscope incarceration in an inguinal hernia is presented as an uncommon complication during colonoscopy.
Colonoscopy was done on an 85-year-old female because gastrointestinal bleeding, during withdrawal incarceration of the scope on an inguinal hernia was noticed, the scope was removed but inguinal hernia couldn’t be reduced, there was no vascular compromise and conservative management was decided. Incarceration of the colonoscope in an inguinal hernia is a rare complication. The presence of an inguinal hernia is considered as a relative contraindication for colonoscopy, if colonoscopy is a priority, measures must be taken to reduce the risk of incarceration.
