Abstract Introduction The purpose of this paper is to achieve a better management of patients with nasal bleeding, admitted to the ENT Department Timisoara.

Material and Method We analyzed the observation sheets of 900 patients admitted in the Otorhinolaryngology Clinic over an 8-year period with nasal hemorrhagic pathology. Both anterior epistaxis and posterior epistaxis patients were included in the study. The following parameters were evaluated: age, gender, provenience, associated comorbidities, haemorrhage location, and, in particular, the treatment method and the outcome.

Results Of the total patients evaluated, 729 cases presented anterior epistaxis and 171 posterior epistaxis. The main treatment method was nasal packaging in a total of 765 cases and in 135 patients endoscopic haemorrhage cauterization was performed. The outcome was favorable, out of the 900 patients only 3 cases of death were reported.

Conclusions Emergency management of epistaxis remains a priority for the ENT physician, not only because of the increased frequency of this pathology, but also due to the complexity and especially due to the associated comorbidities.

Keywords epistaxis management, nasal packaging, endoscopic cauterization
