Aktuell leben ca. 6–8 Millionen Menschen mit Diabetes in Deutschland. Epidemiologischen Daten sprechen dafür, dass die Zahl der an Diabetes erkrankten Menschen weiter zunehmen wird. Deshalb ist es betriebs- und volkswirtschaftlich erforderlich, bei möglichst vielen Menschen mit Diabetes die Arbeitsfähigkeit zu erhalten oder sie wieder in die betrieblichen Abläufe einzugliedern. Moderne Diabetesbehandlung mit personalisierter Schulung ermöglicht durch das Zusammenwirken individuell angepasster Pharmakotherapie, effektiver Selbstkontrolle und Selbstmanagement die Vermeidung von Akut- und Folgekomplikationen. Bei der beruflichen Rehabilitation von Menschen mit Diabetes stehen somit deutlich verbesserte Möglichkeiten im Vordergrund, die beruflichen Anforderungen zu bewältigen.
