Efficiency and results of 445 nm pulsed-blue laser for laryngeal surgery
Background Early clinical results suggest that a novel blue light laser with a wavelength of 445 nm is advantageous for preserve laryngeal structures like epithelium and lamina propria. The blue laser can also be used as a cutting laser.
Materials and methods Fiveteen patients with laryngeal lesions in our department were retrospectively analysed from January 2020 to October 2020.
Results Patients with recurrent respiratory papilloma (RRP), polyps, Reinke`s oedema, contact granuloma, synechia, laryngeal dysplasia`s or vocal cord carcinoma`s were included. The 445 nm laser is capaple of treating subepithelial vessels, furthermore it can coagulate and carbonize. The laser is featuring a favorable combination of photoangiolysis and cutting properties.
Conclusion The blue laser with wavelength of 445 nm have two properties: first the photoangiolytic and furthermore the cutting function. The current study suggests that the degree of scarring seeems more less after blue laser treatment of the vocal cord pathologies.
