Publication Date:
18 April 2016 (online)
Visiting the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in August and September 2016 is associated with a series of noncommunicable as well as infectious diseases risks. The former is probably by far more relevant in terms of frequency and impact for travelers despite currently circulating news around viral infectious disease transmissions in Brazil. Specific health risks are characteristic for either the setting of a sport mass gathering, the location Rio de Janeiro in Brazil or a combination out of both. This article intends to list potential health risk and to discuss preventive measures for travelers.
