Je eher bei unspezifischer Symptomatik an ein Schütteltrauma gedacht wird, desto eher kann eine adäquate Diagnostik und Therapie eingeleitet werden.
-
Diagnostik und Therapie sind interdisziplinär und richten sich nach der akuten Symptomatik.

Die Basisdiagnostik umfasst neben Anamnese und aktuellem Status stets angepasste Laboruntersuchungen, eine Fundoskopie und eine zerebrale Bildgebung mit CT und/oder MRT.

Subdurale Blutungen, die mit Netzhautblutungen und Rippenfrakturen einhergehen, sind pathognomonisch für ein schweres Schütteltrauma.

Eine frühzeitige Verlegung in ein Klinikum der Maximalversorgung ist ratsam.

Ein rasches rechtsmedizinisches Konsil ist indiziert.

Eine perinatale Elternaufklärung ist eine effektive Maßnahme zur Prävention des Schütteltraumas.
