Eine Heilung ist nur chirurgisch möglich. Bei der initialen Präsentation der Patienten können ⅔ nicht mehr kurativ operiert werden. Aufgrund der Lage des Tumors weisen insbesondere extrahepatische Gallengangskarzinome auch schon als kleine Tumoren eine relevante klinische Symptomatik auf und stellen hohe Anforderungen an die Therapie der Erkrankung.
