This paper addresses the issue of incorrect measurement of polyp size at colonoscopy, radiology, and histology as a result of terminal digital preference bias. This bias is due to an operator’s tendency to classify polyps as equal to or larger than 10 mm. An original and powerful statistical method shows that endoscopists, radiologists, and pathologists all exhibit a small but consistent terminal digit preference when measuring colorectal polyp size. Such a systematic measuring error may have potential impact on patient management.
