Hypothermie stellt in der Veterinärmedizin ein relevantes perioperatives Problem dar. Dies kann mit gravierenden Komplikationen für den Patienten einhergehen, so hat eine Hypothermie negative Auswirkungen auf den Metabolismus sowie das kardiovaskuläre und respiratorische System. Zusätzlich wird die Hämostase beeinträchtigt und die Gefahr für Wundinfektionen und Wundheilungsstörungen steigt. Hypotherme Tiere zeigen zudem eine verzögerte Aufwachphase. Ziel sollte es deswegen sein, Wärmeverluste zu vermeiden und eine bestehende Hypothermie suffizient zu behandeln.
