Purpose The recording of the level of knowledge that adolescent high school students have about contraception and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), demonstrating the importance of perceptions about sex education and health, which is one of the main objectives of the Laboratory of Family Planning of DUTH.

Material and method This retrospective study, which is addressed to students of the last grade of secondary schools in the prefecture of Evros, was carried out with the permission of the Family Planning Laboratory of DUTH. The survey in which 79 students participated was conducted in nine high schools (five in general and four vocational) in the period November-March of the school years 2014-2019. After the written consent of their guardian, the students answered the relevant questionnaire anonymously.

Results According to our results, 42.5% of their information came from their family, 36.5% from social media, 14% from educational institutions and about 8% reported inadequate guidance. A significant percentage of students (42%) had started their sexual life while the vast majority (66.6%) described themselves as sufficiently enlightened about STDs and contraception. 92% of them reported a lack of information at the state level.

Conclusion Although the number of participants is not sufficient, it is considered imperative that our country has to develop a coordinated policy of education of adolescents in matters of sex habits and health as well as contraception through the upgrade of family planning centers.
