Unreife Frühgeborene, die zur Prophylaxe der bronchopulmonalen Dysplasie (BPD) Dexamethason erhalten, haben ein hohes Risiko für entwicklungsneurologische Komplikationen. Unklar ist, ob auch bei einer niedrig dosierten, „physiologischeren“ Hydrokortison-Behandlung ungünstige Einflüsse auf die Gehirnentwicklung zu befürchten sind.
