Schilddrüsenfunktionsstörungen gehören zu den häufigsten endokrinologischen Erkrankungen und können verschiedene Organsysteme beeinträchtigen. Die Funktionsstörung wird anhand der Konzentrationen von Thyreoidea-stimulierendem Hormon (TSH) und freiem Thyroxin (FT4) definiert. Dabei orientieren sich die Normbereiche derzeit an der 2,5- bzw. 97,5-Perzentile der Konzentrationen, wie sie in der (anscheinend) gesunden Allgemeinbevölkerung vorliegen.
