In my first editorial for 2023, I mentioned that the Journal of Wrist Surgery would have a JCR impact factor this year. In late June, 2023, the journal has now received an impact factor of 0.7 for 2022. One of the first four promises I made in 2016 when I took over the Editor-in-Chief position from the former Editor, Dr. David Slutsky, has come true. An impact factor of 0.7 for the journal is not high enough. I am not satisfied with this. However, considering that almost 20 years ago, the Journal of Hand Surgery British volume (now European volume) obtained an impact factor of around 1.0 (now 2.2), we still have the possibility to further increase the impact factor of our journal. My editorial team, including me and five assistant editors, Drs. Greg Bain, Guillaume Herzberg, Philippe Liverneaux, Steve Moran, and Stephen Tham, and all world-renowned reviewers will try to pursue the other promises of (1) maintaining the high quality of the published papers, (2) creating a strong editorial board, and (3) establishing a smooth review process. I also have a new promise to all: (4) faster publication of any accepted manuscripts. Once again, the new impact factor is great news for readers, authors, and all editorial board members. Congratulations to all! We did it!

In severely damaged wrists, such as a wrist at the end stage of rheumatoid arthritis or infection, total wrist fusion is choice of treatment to relief the patient from severe pain. A large and long titanium plate or external fixator may be used to provide enough stability for fusion. If fusion fails, further salvage could be difficult. In such cases, vascularized pedicled or free cortical cancellous or corticoperiosteal grafts are effective for fusion. This issue includes a “Special Review” of the “Medial femoral condyle corticoperiosteal flap for failed total wrist fusions” by Drs. Tee, Harvey, Tham, and Ek. Interesting articles on wrists, such as distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) arthritis after total wrist arthrodesis, complication of steroid use after distal radius fracture (DRF) treatment, correlation between a surgeon's level of expertise and patient outcomes, excision of the pisiform, DRUJ anatomy, and other interesting case reports are also included in this issue. Do not miss the Journal of Wrist Surgery with its new impact factor.
